At the beginning of April 2002 the Head directorate
for economic and financial issues at the European commission
presented their forecast for the development of the candidate-members
of the European Union.
According to the forecast of the commission, the Bulgarian
economy will enhance its development and the gross national
product will increase with 4.5% in 2003 and with 5.0% in 2004.
Reason for this positive forecast is the stable domestic demand
(including high growth of investments in economy and growing
private consumption). The improving domestic environment will
also contribute to this growth.
The trade deficit will probably slightly increase in 2003
due to the raised prices of petrol and slower development
of European economy. International investments, however, will
grow both as a result of pending privatization deals and due
to the measures for the improvement of business climate in
a long-term perspective.
